In August of 2009, we refinanced two of our facilities, Cloverfield Apartments and Kingston House Apartments. We completed approximately $800,000 of renovations between the two buildings. We replaced the roof and all of the windows at the Kingston House, updated the security systems at both locations, resurfaced and re-lined the parking lots at both locations, installed automatic door openers to the community room at Cloverfield, etc. We contracted with Wagman Construction to complete/sub out and oversee all of these renovations. With their assistance, the work was completed in approximately five months.
In September of 2009, we held our annual meeting and elected new officers. The list of those officers as well as information on them and our other board members can be found on the Board page. You are also welcome to read a copy of our annual statement. Two employees (Al Damon and Hector Vasquez) were recognized at this meeting for their service to the organization – they have both been with us for over 15 years!
In November of 2009, we began renovations at the Dutch Kitchen. The work on the oriels (bay windows) was completed in April. We will soon be upgrading the security system and entry system as well as replacing some of the common area flooring and some of the bathroom fixtures and emergency exit signs throughout the building. All of these renovations were made possible through Community Development Block Grant Funds from the City of York and the County of York.
We have had energy audits completed on three of our facilities and are currently working with the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) to obtain funds to make energy improvements to those sites. More to follow at a later date…..
Through a grant obtained from the
Rotary Club of York-North, we were able to contract with
Andy Miller to update our website. Andy has worked with
members of our staff and Board as well as our Development
and Public Relations Committee to capture all of their ideas
and recommendations for changes.
Our staff members are spread throughout the County. So, we think it is important to get together monthly - and, we normally invite speakers to those staff meetings so that we can become more familiar with other agencies. We have had a number of our board members talk to the staff – including Brenda Rice, a Case Manager with Lutheran Social Services, Russ Tschopp, a Lieutenant on the York City Police Department, and Victoria Connor, Development Director for the American Red Cross. Other speakers that we have engaged recently were from organizations including PA Counseling and the PA Department of Health. We also get together for an “activity afternoon” once each quarter. In the spring of 2010, we enjoyed pizza, chips, pretzels, and soda while we bowled for two hours. Prizes were given for the male high score (Tom Zipay), the female high score (Gail Stambaugh), the male and female low scores (to remain nameless), and for “best form” (Barry Winter).
